Flossing

Bacteria

Facts on Flossing - fight plaque, tooth decay, and bad breath in minutes.
You may not realize that even when your mouth is clean, bacteria lurk in the warm, damp cave, growing and eating incessantly. These naturally occurring microorganisms make a delicacy of even the most minute food particles, after which they deposit a sticky residue on the teeth called plaque. After you brush and floss, plaque accumulates throughout the day and night, especially in places where toothbrushes can't reach. Left to harden into tartar, plaque build-up irritates gum and can trigger inflammation and gum disease. Sound like a nasty situation? It doesn't have to be. In fact, you can virtually eliminate plaque by carefully brushing and properly flossing every day. It's really that simple--your toothbrush cleans the tops and sides of your teeth, while the floss cleans between them. Flossing also polishes teeth and controls bad breath.
An extra two or three minutes spent flossing each day can give you a huge advantage in the war against those bad bacteria. The American Dental Association (ADA) recommends brushing twice and flossing once daily

Sterilization

What happens behind the scenes to keep a clean dental office usually does not get noticed by most patients. However, we both meet and exceed the OSHA requirements for your safety and health. Comprehensive tear down and disinfection of each room after every patient leaves, one time use of a complete set of plastic products for each patient to eliminate cross-contamination, routinely checking for bacterial counts, and even using sterile distilled water bottles for each dental unit are just a few of the extra steps we take towards reaching the highest sterilization standards you and your family deserve.

Latest Technology

This amazing miniature video camera is the greatest visual advance for dentists since the mirror. It takes pictures of your teeth and smile from any direction and displays them on the computer monitor. You can now finally see what the doctor has always been telling you about. Special computers make it possible for us to change your smile on the monitor and show you what possibilities are available to make you look your best.

The cavitron is an ultrasonic scaler. Power scalers do a more thorough job in less time. This results in significantly decreased scaling time and healthier, cleaner teeth and gums. Hand scalers require repetitive scrapping movements and are restricted to adaptation of only one or two sides of the instrument. In comparison, all four sides of a power scaler can be adapted, because the device moves in an elliptical motion. This comes in handy when removing stain and deposits from behind and between the teeth. Ultrasonic scalers are more effective in removing stain as well. The ultrasonic vibration helps control oral bacteria by breaking down the cell wall of the bacteria. The water used to cool the cavitron then helps to rinse away bacteria, stain and debris.

 Finally, The Statim SterilizerStatatim.

Statim 2000 /And Ritter M9 Ultraclave Automatic Autoclave

The Statim 2000 S-cycle cassette autoclave is the fastest benchtop sterilizer available. Statim will sterilize instruments in only 8 minutes and between patients. This will optimize clinical time management and improve efficiency... Everyone likes an efficient visit.

How The removal of air has long been recognized as critical to achieving sterilization because air can act as a barrier to the sterilizing steam. In fact, unless the autoclave can evacuate air from inside the handpiece before sterilization begins; the handpiece would not necessarily be sterilized. This 'pre-evacuation' and sterilization can only be assured in a validated S or B-cycle autoclave.

Telescopic Loupes

Dr. Knaphus performs many of his dental procedures while wearing a pair of funny looking glasses called "telescopic loupes”. These powerful glasses have magnifiers on them, allowing him to see fine details that would go unnoticed to the naked eye. These loupes are identical to those used in microsurgical procedures in operating rooms.

Dr. Knaphus believes that increased magnification is essential tool for providing quality dental restorations, so we use them on all restorative procedures. Patient care is our number one priority, and using powerful magnifying lenses is one more step we take to provide our patients with excellence in dentistry.

Digital X-rays
Instead of using a conventional film, we use a special computer sensor which takes the x-ray picture directly into the computer which allows us to reduce the amount of harmful radiation by nearly 90%. And since the pictures are in the computer, we can enhance the images to better diagnose conditions - often before they become problems.

Autoclave Sealed Pouches

Each instrument is cleaned by rinsing in an enzymatic GP Ultrasonic Cleaner Solution (similar to a dish washer), then packaged into sterilization pouches and sterilized in a Statim Autoclave. The instruments are kept in the pouch until needed for patient use. Spore tests are run on a weekly basis and analyzed by SNS Biosystems Lab to insure that the instruments are properly sterilized.

All instruments used in the dental office are sterilized before every treatment, ensuring the safety of the patient from the easiest to the most difficult procedure.
